Waking up to that view every day would be a dream.Though we spent four nights in Thun, we explored all over the Bernese Oberland region so we didn’t have a lot of time to explore much in Thun. With its covered bridges, charming architecture, and the castle on the hill, Thun is a town fairytales are made of. The city wall dating from the 13th century means that things on the inside have rarely ever changed, locals even seem to want to keep it this way and every shop in town displays wonderful wrought iron signs in an old fashioned style. It is absolutely worth the time to visit.What is it like to stand at the top of the Swiss Alps? Villa Vella is situated on top of the mountainous hinterland with some gorgeous views of the surrounding beaches, natural springs and gorges.Tossa de Mar is situated between Barcelona and the French border (about 1h30 from Barcelona) so expect a perfect Mediterranean climate, yet it does get chilly in winter. The Town Hall has stood in the square since 1500.Looming over the Rathausplatz is Thun Castle, a historic medieval castle built between 1180-1190. )For me, Delft is absolutely one of the real-life fairytale towns in Europe.This small Netherlands town, located less than a half an hour tram ride from Den Haag is truly gorgeous and it’s a great day trip destination. Mama of 3 . Switzerland has 26 cantons- regions similar to states. And the views from the castle are absolutely stunning. There isn’t much to see nearby, so it’s an easy day trip. I´d love to see the castle, the architecture looks a bit different from other castles I´ve seen in Europe!I completely agree. We stayed in the Hotel Kranenturm which is medieval in age. Atmosphere and streets of the old town will “teleport” you back into the past, right after you past the gate.
These 20 fairytale towns will make you feel like you have stepped into the pages of a storybook! I guess Catalonia just has a lot of great spots that stuck out to travellers.I preferred Bacharach, Germany over Cochem because it was less crowded and seemed more genuine.
I can personally vouch for the cleanliness and refreshing taste of Swiss water from the fountains.Every day we crossed over this bridge to get from our apartment to get to the train station. If you go, be sure to try the delicious Schneeballen pastries and take the evening walking tour with the Night Watchman.Less than an hourâs drive from Luxembourg City you will find the fairy-tale-like town of Vianden. Itâs almost as if youâve hopped in a time machine and entered another world, even if the old Governorâs House has become the Municipal museum. It is a quirky and quaint place!

The fairytale land of Switzerland has plenty of surreal and scenic landscapes to offer to the tourists and travelers. When you reach St. Ivan Church, take a scenic walk around city walls and if you have extra time go to the beach to take a look on majestic “city peninsula”. Gruyeres is a gorgeous old town in the mountains of Switzerland. The old walled-in quarter, or Villa Vella Enciente, is a perfect display of medieval Catalan heritage. Every December the Franconian city is almost bursting with Christmas spirit. And with an old carousel that moves so elated while you can hear the bells of the old stagecoach from afar. Every where we went in Switzerland was amazing and beautiful!Absolutely beautiful! Of all the towns I have visited in my travels, I often find those that stick with me most are the quintessential, fairy tale towns in Europe.
Here are ten enchanting towns, each with far fewer than 10,000 inhabitants, which can be reached in an easy day-trip from either Geneva or Zurich (or both in most cases). It’s only when you get further into the old quarter that it feels like stepping over a fairy tale. Visit its entrancing âFairytale Garden,â ceramics museum, classical private theater with intact stage machinery, and meticulous formal gardens. Rothenburg ob der Tauber is walled village with colourful old houses, and a bit of a gruesome (but interesting!) Add some bright flowers in the spring, or festive market stalls during the holiday season and I always feel like Iâve left the real world and stepped into the pages of fairytale storybook.
